This piece was created in collaboration with Nicole Dikon, a fellow painter/printmaker. Both of our work incorporates strong floral themes, and so this work was created in response to Contact Hawai'i 2018's call for artists. In exploring the idea of the "Contact Zone", we chose the Pīkake as a perfect example of a meaningful object dear to Hawai'i which does not necessarily come from Hawai'i. The imagery which inspired us came from the journey of Pīkake from its native roots in southwest Asia to reach us here.
